About our taonga
He tino taonga ā mātau taonga pounamu Ngāi Tahu Pounamu nei, nō ngā rohe o Hokitika me Arahura. Ko ā mātau taonga kōiwi, he mea hanga ā-ringa e Bone Art Place i Tāmaki Makaurau.
Ngā momo pounamu:
E toru ngā momo pounamu kai a mātau. Heoi anō, ka tukuna atu e mātau ngā taonga kai a mātau. Nā reira, he ranunga pea tō tono o ngā momo kai raro iho nei.
Mēnā ka whiwhi koe i tētahi taonga kāore e tika ana, whakapā atu ki [email protected] ki te whakarite i tētahi whakakapi.
Kahotea: ko tēnei momo he korikori, he pāhekeheke ki te mā. Ka ahu mai te ingoa Kahotea i a Kaho, te tikanga o te tae mārama (mā, mārama rānei).
Kahurangi: he tino maramara, he marumaru kākāriki mārama, kāore he wāhi pōuri me ētahi atu kohakore. Ko tētahi o ngā momo onge e tino whakanuia ana e te Māori.
Kawakawa: he kākāriki pōuri, he rerekē ngā ātārangi o waenga, i tapaina ki te rau o te Kawakawa. Koinei te momo matua e whakamahia ana mō ngā kaupapa kōhatu.
Our greenstone taonga are authentic Nga Tahu Pounamu pieces from the Hokitika and Arahura regions. Our bone taonga are handcrafted by Bone Art Place in Auckland.
Greenstone varieties:
We have our greenstone taonga available in three varieties, however we will send the taonga we have in stock so your order may be a mix of the varieties below.
If you receive a Taonga in a variety that's unsuitable, please contact [email protected] to arrange a replacement.
Kahotea: This type is streaked or flecked with white. The name Kahotea derives from Kaho, meaning light coloured tea (white or clear).
Kahurangi: A highly translucent, lightish green shade, free from dark spots and other flaws. One of the rarest varieties, held in high esteem by Māori.
Kawakawa: A dark rich green with varying intermediate shades, named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
