About us
Ko Tāmaki ki runga, ko Te Rēinga ki raro. Papaki tū ana ngā tai e rua - ko Te Tai Tamawahine o Whitirea, ko Te Tai Tamatāne o Rēhua. Koia rā tēnei ko te rohe o Te Tai Tokerau, e hāpai nei i tō tātou reo tuku iho me tēnei kaupapa makoha, te whakatinanatanga o ngā moemoeā o rātou mā.
Whakatau mai rā ki tēnei taumata iringa kōrero mō ngā Kōhanga Reo o Te Tai Tokerau. E 41 ngā Kōhanga Reo puta noa i ngā marae kāinga o te rohe, kei raro i te maru o ngā Purapura 10.
Te Tai Tokerau geographical area begins at Te Rerenga Wairua to the North and ends at the Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland Northern boundaries crossing into the Ngati Whātua – Kaipara District. The region is flanked by the east and west coast beaches. Their close proximity creates a unique environment for local tribes, whose genealogy is inextricably interwoven into the environment and history of the land and its seas.
There are 41 Kōhanga Reo in Te Tai Tokerau (District 1) spread across the Northland Region. Half of these Kōhanga Reo are marae based and are supported by local iwi and hapu. Kōhanga Reo are clustered into 10 support groups, called “Purapura”. They are grouped by location providing a localised support base for whānau and Kaiako in Kōhanga Reo.
Te Tai Tokerau is often referred to as the home of the Treaty of Waitangi, signed on 6 February 1840 between Māori and Pākeha. It serves as a reminder of the obligations of the Crown to give equal opportunity and provision for Māori to determine their own destiny.
Toitū Te Tiriti, Toitū Te Kōhanga Reo, Toitū te Reo, Toitū ngā Tikanga Māori.
