In this programme you will build your te reo Māori skills and knowledge using karakia, mihimihi, waiata, and basic situational phrases. You will also learn about the Kaupapa of Kōhanga Reo.

You will be able to:
Use basic greetings and introduce yourself
Understand basic sentence structures and conduct simple conversations confidently
Learn and perform Kōhanga Reo waiata
Learn and perform karakia
Learn and apply basic tikanga practices within Kōhanga Reo and on marae settings
Learn and kōrero alongside and engage with tamariki, mokopuna, whānau and kaimahi in a Kōhanga Reo setting
At the end of this programme, ākonga will receive:
Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua), Level 1
Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua), Level 2
How you will study
Through blended delivery including set training days, wānanga, hui, online, alongside pakeke and kaumātua, at home, or with your Kōhanga Reo whānau or Purapura.
Entry criteria
To enrol on this course, kaitono (applicants) must:
Be 17 years of age or older
Have a desire to learn te reo Māori
Be supported by your Kōhanga Reo whānau
