Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Marino Hau to the role of District Manager for Tāmaki Makaurau. Marino proudly descends from Te Whare Tapu o Ngāpuhi and has spent a lifetime in teaching and management roles with a focus on Te Reo and Māori Performing Arts.
Although there was no Kōhanga Reo or Kura Kaupapa Māori during her time as a child, her reo was fostered in her home, kapa haka and the hāhi Katorika. Marino is a passionate life learner of te reo and continues to support and empower our people.
During her 27 years as a Kaiako in Auckland secondary schools and later a Kaiako of Online learning and teaching, she has seen the evolution of technology to teach te reo and to bring whānau together.
Although early days, she believes the values fostered while she was growing up, te tika, te pono me te aroha ki te tangata, will help guide her as she connects with the Kōhanga Reo o Tāmaki Makaurau and eventually the motu.
Marino says that 'the reo is the foundation to who we are as Māori and we can overcome any barriers or obstacles we are faced with. I have witnessed and experienced authentic Māori and tokenistic Māori in mainstream spaces however now this is no longer the case.''
Angus Hartley Tumu Whakarae - "I acknowledge Kerry Jones Kaitohu ā-rohe of Tāmaki Makaurau, as she vacates this position and moves into her new role.
Her stewardship of the Kōhanga Reo in Tāmaki Makaurau and her commitment of over 20 years and more so in recent years needs to be acknowledged. Kerry is a stalwart of our kaupapa and a committed advocate of Kōhanga Reo. I thank her for her mahi over these many years.
Nō reira, e te whaea Kerry kei te mihi nui ki a koe me tō whānau".
Marino will be supported by the Kaimahi of Tāmaki Makaurau as she finds her feet and makes her way around the rohe to meet our Kaumātua and Kōhanga Reo whānau. She will be an exciting addition to the kaupapa.
Tēnā koe e te uri o te Taitokerau whānui nāu mai ki Kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo e roha nei ngā parirau ki a koe, tomo mai ki te korowai o te aroha.
