“Ki taku mokopuna
Tamaiti mokopuna, kia kaha te kuhu i a koe ki roto i te ao hou
te ao hurihuri whakawehe, whakapau, whakawhiu tangata.
Kia maumahara ki te mana me kore e whiwhi he whetū hei whakapūmau te waiora e!”
“Child, descendant quit yourself and be strong in the new world,
the changing world that divides, consumes, and challenges people.
Never forget your own uniqueness and thus travel and acquire the universe of total wellbeing.”

Kua kōrihi ngā manu o te wāo tapunui a Tāne, e tangi ana “tiakina tōku ahurea māori”
E te whānau,
The right to decide our own destiny and the future of our tamariki is being challenged. As an organisation that operates in both te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā, we remain committed to upholding our tikanga and empowering our whānau. The recent hikoi demonstrated the unity and strength of our kaupapa. Now, we must take the next step and activate our right make to submissions to the Justice Committee on the Treaty Principles Bill.
It is up to each of us and our whānau to ensure our perspectives are heard through the official submission process. The Treaty Principles Bill is currently at the consultation stage. This is the critical moment where we all have the opportunity to share our collective voices.
To support you, we have included an example submission prepared by Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust. This submission will be delivered and spoken to on behalf of the entire Kōhanga Reo kaupapa. However, it is equally important for you to create your own submission as an individual, whānau, purapura or Kōhanga Reo. Kei a koe te tikanga.
To submit your own response to the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill, visit this link: Submit your Submission.
If you’re feeling unsure, don’t worry. There will be an online workshop in the coming week to guide you through the submission process. Details will be published soon.
In the meantime gather your Kōhanga Reo or whānau together and start drafting your submission. Remember, it’s essential that your submission is your own point of view and not copied, as every submission will be scanned for originality. Duplicate submissions will be discounted.
Nō reira e te whānau, kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui.
Mō ngā mokopuna mō te kaupapa.
Ngā mihi nui,
Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board
